This blog is managed by a group primarily consisting of Shinshu University alumni who have maintained close ties with local Shinshu restaurants and store owners for almost half a century.
Who are the operators?
The roots of our group trace back to the late 1970s, a time before widespread internet use, when Microsoft and Apple were fledgling ventures. Initially formed by several dozen deeply involved Shinshu University students with local restaurants and store owners, the ‘Association Surrounding Shinshu’ was inaugurated at Asama Onsen upon the main members’ graduation. Over time, as members married, their families and friends joined, doubling the group’s size. We continued our annual irregular and regular social gatherings, which, in Shinshu, primarily involve enjoying drinks together.
Why “Nostalgia Gallery”?
This is also the reason why we have launched this blog, ‘Nostalgia Gallery.’ We all love the four seasons, the climate, and the people of Shinshu and consider it our second home. In the past, we used to gather there daily, akin to ships stopping by our home ports when we grew tired of sailing.However, as we’ve grown older, it has become increasingly challenging for the members. The COVID-19 pandemic was also a significant factor in this shift. Our intention with this blog is to fill the gap in our hearts and minds.
What’s in the “Nostalgia Gallery”?
This blog is dedicated to everyone interested in Shinshu, whether you’re part of the ‘Association Surrounding Shinshu,’ their families, friends, or just curious visitors. Feel free to share our photos and messages, capturing the beauty of Shinshu – past and present. Think of this space as a virtual gallery, welcoming all to explore and appreciate the charm of Shinshu, just as if you were casually strolling through a serene town here.
Why a blog?
As we all know, social media is widely used nowadays, making communication easier without much hassle. However, the members of the ‘Association Surrounding Shinshu’ have roots in an analog era. It’s like being bombarded with constant new images on a train journey, navigating through social media ads we might not even be interested in. But, with a self-directed blog, you can enjoy your favorite images at your own pace, whenever you want, just like browsing through a gallery.

Our new blog is just getting started, so there’s not much content yet. But we’re excited to grow it with cool themes based on images and messages from our members, their families, and friends. Although the blog and posts are anonymous for privacy reasons, if you have any comments or requests about the content (like asking who wrote a post or sharing something), please contact us via the ‘Contact Us’ section. Rest assured, only the admin will see your message. We’re open to suggestions and happy to work with our team and contributors to accommodate your requests!
